Interlock5/22/2022 Interlock knit fabric is a popular fabric choice for sewing because it can be used for many different types of clothing. Interlock is a type of double knit fabric. This type of knit results in thicker, stronger, stretchy, and more durable fabric than other types of knit fabric.
Interlock tends to have a low spandex content, so it does not have great recovery and can stretch out over time. Incorporating elastic and higher-content fabrics for bands and at seams can improve this quality. This type of fabric is easily found at Joann in their children's knit fabric section. Due to the stretchy nature of this fabric, it may require a size down of the pattern as it is likely to result in a looser fit. Stretch Mesh5/22/2022 Stretch mesh is a semi-sheer knit with great recovery. It can be sewn into flowing or body-hugging designs. In either type of silhouette, this knit fabric does not add a great deal of bulk, especially if you use appropriate seam and edge treatments.
May 22nd, 20225/22/2022 Swim fabric is a super versatile and easy-to-sew fabric, perfect for so many applications other than just swimwear. Swim fabrics are most commonly made with a combination of nylon and spandex, and have excellent stretch and recovery. Many boutique/custom fabric shops sell swim that is a blend of polyester and spandex. Swim fabric generally has wonderful drape, with a cool and fluid hand.
Chambray5/22/2022 While it may look like denim, chambray is lighter and is woven differently. It has a softer texture than denim and is significantly thinner in construction and more breathable. It is a natural fabric made from linen or cotton.
Rayon Challis5/22/2022 Challis is a super-soft, lighweight, plain-woven fabric with a luxurious hand, and an elegant drape. It is popular for its look, feel, and it's wonderful breathability.
