Girlfriends Fringe Crossbody

I just love how slinky Phoebe's fringe crossbody bag is in Girlfriends Guide to Divorce. It has this casual chic look while being a little edgy, too. Totally my style. The designer bag used in the show is well over $100, so I decided to just wing it and made one myself!

Of course, making my own meant I could take liberties with the design. I chose this snakeskin knit cosplay fabric from Joann and sewed velvet fringe in layers, mimicking the scoop of the original bag. I added a scrap of quilted faux leather to the top with some chain trim over that. The entire bag is lined with a thick, fabric-like iron-on interfacing.

I sewed loops in the sides for the straps to be attached to. Using the same chain trim for the strap, I attached keychain hardware that I had on hand to the ends, so they can be clipped to the loops.

I used one magnetic snap and managed to install it off-center. I ordered another magnetic snap and am planning to remove the first one, so I can use both snaps for a more secure closure. I also just picked up some silver spikes to add to the quilted faux leather.
