Metallica Franken-Tella High-Low Tank5/19/2022 Metallica Franken-Tella High-Low TankThe timing of the release of this pattern couldn't have been more mystical. I was wearing my (store-bought) Metallica tank top and very not happy with the amount of rabbit hair all over it. The material attracts it with a fervor and having 5 in-house bunnies doesn't help. So I decided I would recreate the top using fabric that won't end up hairy (athletic is great for this) and the next morning when I took to Facebook to look for the right pattern, there was the Tella. It actually was the first day of the release and I was able to snag the pattern at a discount. I'll add the options I chose and how this top came together below the gallery of images. I measured in size Pink (about a size small - M4M goes by colors instead of traditional size names) for upper bust and full bust. For waist I measured two sizes bigger (gotta work on that lol). Since the pattern flares toward the hemline, I went with a straight Pink as the finished measurements would certainly fit my waist fine. The fit ended up being perfect on me!
My Pattern Options This pattern has a LOT of options! I went with the high-low hemline (my favorite style) and the regular back (racerback is the other option). I also opted for the mid-scoop neckline and low armscyes. Frankenstein-ing Metallica After I cut out the front bodice, I cut "Metallica" out of my 'old' tank so that the letters were still connected through the middle. This allowed me to place the letters on the new bodice with the exact same layout. Then I dabbed temporary fabric glue behind each letter (just enough to hold them in place). When the glue was dry, I carefully trimmed the extra fabric between the letters and secured them to the bodice with more glue. Finally, I used a very small zig-zag stitch to permanently adhere the letters to the bodice. Shredded Back To get just the right back shred, I laid the back panel of the 'old' tank on the new bodice back. I simply used my rotary cutter to cut the new bodice where the old bodice was already cut. There is something scary about intentionally cutting up a project I am in the process of assembling! |
